Which Toothbrush is better?

Brushing your teeth is the most important step in maintaining your oral health. Regular brushing and flossing keep the teeth and gums healthy. This also helps in preserving the overall well-being of the body.

There are tons of options in the market for toothbrushes and other dental care products. Since a toothbrush is a primary tool, the sheer number of options available can be overwhelming.

This write-up is a breakdown of the pros and cons of the various kinds of toothbrushes in the market.

The two basic kinds of toothbrushes are:

  1. Manual Toothbrush
  1. Electric Toothbrush

Manual Toothbrush: This is the most commonly used toothbrush and is a comfortable option. This comes with different variants in terms of bristle softness, design of the handle, head shape, etc.

Pros

The best part of this manual toothbrush is that there is an option for everybody based on their requirements. Most people prefer the one with the soft bristle as it is easy on the gums and preserves the enamel coating on the teeth.

The handle design of the toothbrushes is ergonomically done so that the handling of the brush is easy and comfortable. If the grip is good the performance can be enhanced by many notches.

Apart from the handle design and bristle softness, the design of the head of the brush is equally important. The market has plenty of options with different head designs. The design is done to reach every corner of the mouth and ensure deep cleansing.

Manual toothbrushes are also cost-effective and widely available in the market.

Cons

Manual toothbrushes require effort from the user. This can be a problem for people with limited mobility. The elderly and people with certain ailments who cannot move their arms can find it difficult to use manual brushes.

Electric Toothbrush: Electric toothbrushes come with a rotating and vibrating head. With a push of a button, the brush is activated and does the job with the least amount of effort from the user. They are battery-operated and rechargeable options available in the market.

Pros:

Electric toothbrushes are prescribed by most dentists and are believed to be better at reducing the chances of developing an infection or plaque. Since the tool has a vibrating head it functions well and helps in removing food particles stuck in the corners efficiently.

Most of the heads of these brushes are small in size and hence can comfortably reach the corners of the mouth.

They also come with a timer so that the user can stick to the 2-minute rule every day.

They are an ideal option for people with limited mobility. They help in efficient brushing with almost no effort.

They come with detachable heads which can be replaced instead of getting the entire set again.

Cons:

They are slightly expensive as compared to manual brushes.

They are not widely available in the market.

Manual Toothbrush Vs Electric Toothbrush

The two kinds of toothbrushes discussed above fundamentally do the same job. Your teeth really do not care if it is a manual or an electric brush. The most important part of brushing your teeth should be the process and not the tool. Thus, following the two-minute, two-time rule religiously is important.

Hence, depending upon the requirements you can choose your toothbrush from the plethora of options available in the market.
